Michael’s
landscape paintings are mainly representative of South
Carolina. He depicts nature at varying times during the day,
and through his gestural brushstroke they become lucid and
dreamy destinations. Michael received his B.F.A. from Kendall
College of Fine Arts in Michigan and his M.F.A. from the
University of South Carolina. He has participated in many
exhibitions throughout South Carolina and Michigan and has
taught fundamental art classes at USC.
Artist’s Statement
“My
images were initially gathered from memories, walks with my
son, fishing mountain streams, and watching golf on the
television. They
are painted to express a time of day, a quality of light and
my experience in the landscape of South Carolina. It is my
hope that these paintings will provide an outlet to escape the
everyday world. Look
closely, breathe deeply, follow curiosity into the meadows,
forests, and mountain streams. Let the imagination free to
experience the warm light and contemplate the shadows.”
