A resident of Rock Hill,
Michael paints imagery representative of the rivers and
creeks that he has always known. However, Michael's portrayal is
uniquely abstract, incorporating brilliant colors and rapid
brushstrokes.
Michael
received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Illinois
University and his Master of Arts from Illinois State University,
both with a focus in painting. His new work is the result of his
interest in water, motion, and film. Michael observes bodies of
water through the lens of his video camera, zooming in and out,
panning and maintaining stillness. After he has obtained enough
footage, Michael returns to his studio where he cuts the film
into stills, or still pictures. These stills are then what he
renders in his paintings.

Using
stills allows Michael to recreate the movement of the water,
whether he is making one large painting from a single still or
five small paintings from five sequential stills.

Jeanette’s
poetry in this show is reflective of existence and the
motion of life. It adds greater depth to Michael’s
paintings, is questioning, and fluid, like the water
and nature that Michael so meticulously depicts.

custom picture framing department and we also offer art

areas. The art supply store is located in the
basement floor. On the main floor resides the
main exhibition gallery and another side space that
houses the framing design department and smaller 2 and
3 dimensional works of art like pottery, glass,
sculpture, jewelry and the like. The art supply
store is always running sales and specials and offers
a frequent buyer discount card for anyone.. Often overlooked is the gallery space on
the 3rd floor. It's well worth climbing the stairs and
that's where the art classes are held as well.
The main gallery is also available for rental for
parties, dinners and wedding receptions. Come
explore all that City Art has to offer.
