Nikolai  is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a concentration in painting. During his undergraduate years Nikolai received awards for Best Undergraduate Work and Best in Show at the McMaster Gallery's Annual Student Exhibit in 2004 and 2005. He has created many commissioned pieces and is currently preparing for a solo exhibit at Gallery 80808 in Columbia, SC. "Currently, I believe that painting is defined to me as a devotion of concentration on the part of the artist to whatever comes as purely significant to the artist's experience. Namely I have been looking at my various surrounding environments and attempting to see the many events taking place around us as divine cause and effect."
