Artist Statement

A home is commonly defined as a physical structure that provides shelter and privacy.  It is often associated with strength and stability, warmth and comfort, and a strong sense of identity.  A home can be a spiritual haven from the outside world, a nurturing place.  Although the notion of home is unique to each individual, the psychological power of the ideal of home is universal.  However, there can be a disconnect between this idealized view and the lived experience.  Using decay as a metaphor, this body of work focuses on this discrepancy, bringing an ideal into question by presenting its opposite.
